ABRAHAM Wogute retained the Baroda badminton Open men’s title after second seed Ivan Karimunda retired in the second set due to an injury.
Karimunda had taken the first set 15-13, and was looking to further upset Wogute whom he beat in the Roofings Open semi-final 2-1 last month.
But luck was not on his side, failing to tame him in the second set as Wogute limped off when he was down 8-2.
Gloria Najjuka, who had taken the girls’ U-18 title was denied her maiden Open title by Ritah Namusisi, who beat her 11-4, 11-9. National top seed Edwin Ekiring, fresh from a badminton academy in South Africa combined with Wogute and then Rose Nakalya to lift the men’s and mixed doubles (15-6, 15-1), (15-7, 15-8) respectively in the last tournament on the 2005 badminton calendar.
