AMID all the corporate bashes around, uganda telecom limited (utl) also treated Kampala’s socialites to a grand dinner party at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Thursday evening.

The company was celebrating the merging of all its services landline, mobile and internet. They also launched their new corporate tagline ‘All about you’.
The party kicked off at about 6:00pm. As guests entered the tent, they were made to believe that they were boarding an airplane, ‘to fly to a new world with utl’.

But the concept was so well managed that all the 700 guests including Martin and Camille Aliker, Sudhir and Joystna Ruperelia, Gordon and Maureen Wavamunno and former German Ambassador Klaus Holderbaum were almost taken into it. Why not?

The invitation cards could easily have been mistaken for air tickets. All guests were given boarding passes at the entrance, only to be ushered in by several utl staff dressed up as air hostesses, pilot (this was none other than Aimable Mpore) and the co-pilot was Hans Paulsen, the company’s marketing manager.

Besides speeches from utl's top-notch bosses, there was an array of entertainers including Julianna Kanyomozi, Ndere Troupe and the BLU*3. Many of the guests sang and shouted along to the chorus of the BLU*3 hit, Woah!

The sumptuous several-course dinner spanned more than two hours. At about 10:30pm, everyone was invited out to the lake shore ‘to see utl launching into the skies’. Little did we know that we were set for a most spectacular display of fireworks.

These were lighted and shot from a couple of long boats that were anchored on the lake.

And as blast after blast of multi-colored fires sprinkled into the dark sky, the hundreds of guests stood rivetted to the shore, gazing upward. But that was not all; everyone was treated to a bottle of red wine.

“All our clients are set to enjoy an exciting range of new services,” Paulsen said. He added that they had decided to merge all the company’s services to be able to advertise efficiently. “Before, we were focusing so much on advertising Mango.

“But we shall now be advertising it as utl mobile. We’ll also be having utl landline as well as utl internet.” Mango juice cards will have been phased out by January next year. Afterwards, all utl subscribers will be using telesaver cards.
