THREE local companies out of 10 dealing in natural ingredients for food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries under the bio-trade programme are ready to start exporting to the European Union.

The companies dealing in papain, shea- nut butter and bird eye chillies, have been training since last year.

The firms would be exporting products mostly for the cosmetics industry.

“The companies are assisted to reach an export level and linked to buyers,” Susan Bingi, the programme’s national coordinator, said.

She said companies were trained in quality and other aspects of export trade, promotional materials and market studies and linked to trade fairs to expose their products.

“Most important, however, is that the programme helps them to market their products after they have reached the export-ready stage,” Bingi said in an interview.
