FORMER Busia resident district commissioner and loser in the Kigulu South NRM parliamentary primaries, George Patrick Bageya, has vowed to contest for the seat as an independent candidate.

“I have decided to stand as an independent candidate for the electorate to decide. I do not mind losing my membership in NRM. I am standing for developmental purposes, not NRM representation,” Bageya said.

Bageya, also former Iganga district LC5 chairman, said when he resigned as RDC, his intention was to stand for parliamentary elections, not NRM elections.

“I have been a member of the NRM by conviction. So, do I need to apply to move out?” he asked.

“Much as I am considered a loser in the NRM primaries held under election circumstances that were not in order in the party, especially in Iganga district, I am going to stand for the seat as Bageya,” he said.

Bageya lost to Busoga University Guild President Milton Muwumba. The incumbent Kigulu South Member of Parliament, Dr. Specioza Wandira, has been busy with her PhD studies in the USA. She did not feature anywhere in the NRM primaries.
