Museveni starts NRM campaign

NRM candidate President Yoweri Museveni hits the campaign trail on Thursday in Luweero, the cradle of his five-year guerrilla war in 1981, his publicist said yesterday.

Spokesman Ofwono Opondo (right) said yesterday, “He begins on Thursday. Before that he is fine-tuning his election campaign budget, polishing his campaign manifesto and doing internal consultations.” He would not say how much the campaign would cost.

Democratic Party candidate John Ssebaana Kizito yesterday campaigned in Luweero, his birthplace.

On Thursday Museveni will meet leaders of Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts in Luweero town from 10:00am to 2:00pm and address a public rally from 3 to 6:00pm in the same town.

The following day he addresses a public rally at Kiwoko, Nakaseke district from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Museveni will have a break from December 23-26 and resume on December 27, in Nakawa, Kampala, from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

On Wednesday, December 28, he will address supporters in Kawempe Division, Kampala from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

On December 29, he will be in Kampala Central from 10:00am to 5:00pm and the following day, he will be in Rubaga.

On New Year’s Eve, he will be in Makindye Division from 10:00am to 5:00pm and on a radio talk-show later.

Opondo said on December 22, Museveni will travel through Gayaza, Busika, Zirobwe, Kikyusa, Luweero, Wobulenzi and Bombo.

On December 23, he will be in Matuga, Gombe, Kilolo, Kalasa, Kanyanda, Mawale, Semuto Town Council, Kapeka, Nakaseke and Kiwoko.

On December 23, he will travel through Luweero, Kakooge, Katugo, Wabigalo, Sasira, Migyera, Lwampanga, and Nakasongola. Opondo said, “The campaign leg for up-country districts will start early January.”
