THERE are disagreements among Bushenyi district FDC executive members on whether the party should field East African Community secretary general Amanya Mushega for the Igara East parliamentary seat in the 2006 elections.

Some members back the proposal because they believe Mushega can beat incumbent Richard Nduhura.

“Some are proposing Amanya Mushega’s name while others are against it,” said the district FDC chairman, William Mukaira.

Mushega represented Igara East before leaving it in the hands of local government state minister Nduhura.
The other FDC member eyeing the seat is the Bushenyi district speaker, Odo Tayebwa, who is also the district FDC publicity secretary.

Mukaira also dismissed reports that the party would field Nekemia Matembe, the husband to Mbarara district Woman MP Miria Matembe, for the Bushenyi district chairmanship.

“As FDC chairman, I have never called a meeting to discuss the matter. I have never seen a delegation asking me to contact Matembe to come and contest,” he said.

He said the FDC members in Bushenyi would convene on December 27 to select the party parliamentary and local council candidates.
