Once again, it’s almost time to cut down those trees. Most people shall transverse villages looking for every green cyprus tree that we fondly call the ‘Christmas tree.’

Christmas is drawing closer and one of the things that many of us will definitely engage in during this season is the tireless efforts to decorate our houses.
Decorative talents and the eye for art that have over the years been left to gather dust will be summoned to duty during this period. It’s common to see many shops brightly decorated with Christmas lights, inspiration art pieces and blaring Christmas carols.

So, why not blow the dust off that talent and give it another go, just for once.
Christmas decorating can be turned into a fun-filled venture, which the whole family can enjoy, especially now that there are all sorts of decorative items, specially intended for Christmas.

“There is no excuse having a miserable tree. Technology has brought with it very many new things that can cost you an arm and the leg,” says Helen, a manager at Quality Supermarket.

Tinsel garlands, Christmas bows, beaded chains with bells and tree top stars are just a few of the Christmas decorative items that can be obtained at many stores in town.

A 9ft artificial Christmas tree goes for sh180,000 and sh70,000 for a 7ft in Aristoc. However, there are small trees that can be acquired in many shops at sh23,000.

The tinsel garlands that come in bright Christmas theme colour of gold, red, blue and green can be obtained between sh40,000 and sh65,000 per land, depending on where you buy them.

There is also a great assortment of brightly coloured balls with strings that can hang on the tree. For Zaina Namakula, who runs a boutique on Mutaasa Kafeero building, decoration does not have to stop at just the Christmas tree, but even the rest of the house.
