UGANDA People’s congress (UPC) chief Miria Kalule Obote has attacked tourism state minister Ayumu Akaki, for ignoring his constituency and interfering in the late Dr. Milton Obote’s family affairs.

Akaki, also the Maruzi County MP and a relative of Dr. Obote, was recently reported to be disappointed because Miria had plunged straight into politics. He said under Lango culture, Miria should still be mourning her husband who died two months ago.

“You go and ask Akaki to tell you what he has done for his people. Let him concentrate on what he can do for his people in future instead of looking where he has no concern,” Miria said.

She was on Wednesday addressing the weekly UPC press conference at Uganda House, the party headquarters in Kampala. Obote was buried in Akokoro, Maruzi in Apac.

Miria said, “I was in Maruzi for three days after the burial. I attended the traditional hair-cutting ceremony. That means I know the culture.”
She added, “I did not see him in Maruzi all those three days.”

Akaki attended Obote’s funeral ceremony and was one of the few individuals who were allowed to attend the private burial.
Present at the press conference were officials Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo, Peter Walubiri, Joseph Ochieno and Yoga Adhola.
