A sh11.7b contract for Rukungiri-Kanungu-Kayonza power project has been signed.
Energy minister Syda Bbumba said after the signing of the contract in the energy ministry board room in Kampala, “Budgetary constraints had halted work on the supply of electricity to Kanungu. However, the signing of the contract is a clear testimony that the Government is committed to developing the district, eradicate poverty and improve the living standards.”
Bbumba said after Kanungu, other rural electrification contracts would be signed soon.
The chairman of the Rural Electrification Board and the energy ministry’s permanent secretary, Fred Kabagambe-Kaliisa, signed the contract on behalf of the Government with Saudi Arabia’s National Contracting Company’s K. Gobalakrishnan.
The defence minister and Kinkizi Member of Parliament, Hon Amama Mbabazi, said construction of the power line to remote Rwamahamba would modernise the place.
