Movement vice-chairman Al Haji Moses Kigongo has called on Ugandans to exercise self-restraint and mutual respect as the country enters a new political phase.

In his New Year message, Kigongo said the Movement had decided to open the political space whose ultimate goal is unity and the ability to work together, irrespective of political affiliation or opinion.

“Uganda is one and for all of us. The ultimate goal is to build a peaceful, united, democratic, industrialised and a prosperous country where all Ugandans can freely participate in the development process,” he said.

Kigongo said stirring differences and discrimination should be replaced with dialogue and cooperation to avoid confusion.

He wished all Ugandans a peaceful year and called for the strengthening and the consolidation of the good aspects sown by the Movement Government in the last 17 years.

“Our country has for the last 17 years made important strides in building unity, economic recovery and rehabilitation and restoration of the rule of law,” he said.

Kigongo said the Movement Government still had more development initiatives to offer to the country.
