An electrical engineer, Dan Byamukama, has designed an electricity saving system.

Byamukama has designed a florescent light which saves 50% of the power.

“The magnetic choke called Refcolite is replaced with an electric ballast which consumes half of what the magnetic choke consumes. The voltage of this lighting is about 45 to 50 while the others go up 400 volts,” he said.

Byamukama has written a proposal to the energy minister, Syda Bbumba and the managing director of Uganda Electricity Distributing Company Limited asking for support to promote Refcolite.

He said Refcolite is sold in Kiyembe Market.

Each Refcolyte costs sh175,000 while refitting costs sh15,000.
