THE deputy speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has said she will lobby parliament to support the elevation of Jinja municipality into a city council. Kadaga was addressing guests at the Jinja mayor’s end-of-year ball at the mayor’s gardens on Wednesday night.
She also appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the railway network in Busoga region and rebuild Jinja central market, which got burnt twice last year. Kadaga said elevating Jinja and rehabilitating the infrastructure would boost development in the region.
She called upon the leaders in the region to support the youth and women in their bid to improve their welfare. Kadaga commended the Kyabazinga, Henry Wako Muloki, for his efforts to unite his subjects to foster development in the region. She also introduced her escort Ateker Ejalu to the excited crowd moments before fireworks ushered in the new year.
Jinja district chairman Fred Gume called upon the people of Busoga to maintain peace in the region. The mayor, David Wakudumira, called upon the Government to support development efforts in the district.
