A photojournalist with The New Vision based in Jinja, Abubaker Mukose, ushered in the new year with blows from bouncers and security operatives at the Jinja mayor’s end-of-year party.

Mukose was attacked as he tried to take pictures of the chief guest, Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, as she opened the dance with the mayor, David Wakudumira.
This is the second time Mukose has been roughed up at the mayor’s ball, the first being in 1999/2000 when he was arrested by soldiers for taking their photographs after they arrested a reveller and put him at gun-point.

During the Wednesday scuffle, Mukose was dragged away as security operatives tried to grab his digital camera which got damaged in the process. His trousers and shirt were also torn.
The operatives included military police, the police, Kadaga’s escorts, municipal enforcement officers and bouncers who met strong resistance from other journalists who grouped up to rescue their colleague.
