The Masaka Diocese Bishop, the Right Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa, has appealed to all Ugandans to be patriotic when handling issues of the third term and the anticipated national referendum on the political system.
“Politics is becoming hot these days with issues like the third term, proposed changes in the Constitution and the anticipated referendum.
“But all these issues should be handled in a patriotic manner to avoid watering the Constitution, which we have been cherishing,” he said.
The bishop was delivering his New Year message at Kitovu Cathedral.
He asked nationals to critically analyse issues and handle the constitutional changes wisely to avoid creating conflicts and wars.
“We should avoid using arms to change governments,” he said.
The bishop blasted traditional healers and those who frequently flock into shrines.
He said such people have fleeced many of huge sums of money.
“We should avoid these satanic shrines. They just make you poor and miserable. We should learn to address our problems to God,” Kaggwa said, adding that those with traditional shrines thrive on lies.
“When you turn to those shrines, you end up being more confused and poor,” he said.
He appealed to the public to focus on fighting poverty by embracing developmental projects, and learn to save money and to utilise banking services.
