SHELL Uganda has boosted the Uganda Cricket Association with sh15m ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh February 15 - March 5.
UCA consequently declared Shell as the official sponsors of the national U-19 team to play at the fifth edition of the ICC youth World Cup that has drawn teams from 16 countries.
Shell joined National Council of Sports (NCS) who recently offered the side sh2m.
“We are proud to be associated with the young talents of this nation. We hope that our youth will put up a fighting spirit at the World Cup and bring home good results,†Shell country chairman Ivan Kyayonka said at a press conference at Lugogo yesterday.
Kyayonka, who was flanked by communication manager James Ndiwalana, called upon UCA to maintain the openness, transparency and accountability in order to attract Shell in its activities.
UCA chairman Latimer Mukasa applauded Shell for coming in to help the association at short notice.
He promised that the youngsters will carry the national flag high for Uganda and the sponsors.
The team is currently undergoing training at Lugogo cricket oval under Kenyan coach Tom Tikolo.
