BUSHENYI leaders are goading President Yoweri Museveni’s press secretary Mary Okurut (right) to contest for the district Woman MP seat.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Bernadette Bigirwa two weeks ago.

Several delegations comprising top district leaders have been courting Okurut to contest for the seat on the Movement ticket, a prominent Bushenyi leader told The New Vision.

“Delegations have been flocking her home because there is a feeling here that the next two years are going to be crucial in the history of Uganda. We need an authoritative person to take over from Bigirwa,” a source at the district administration said.

Okurut confirmed the reports, saying, “Who am I to give a blind ear to the voice of the people?”

She was with Museveni in Bushenyi during his recent anti-poverty campaign tour of the west.
