OVER 50% of candidates who sat business and technical education examinations last year failed, according to results rele-ased by UNEB yesterday.

Uganda National Exam-inations Board secretary Matthew Bukenya handed the results to education minister Khidu Makubuya.

“The results are attributed to poor teaching and inadequate inst-ructional facilities, coupled with lower scientific and mathematics background of the students,” Bukenya said.

Of the 4,070 candidates, 35 had distinctions, 2,285 failed and 1,101 had passes. Of the 2,266 who sat for the advanced diploma, 22 passed with distinctions, 427 with credits, 736 passed while 1,081 failed. At the diploma level, out of 1,059, only one passed with a distinction, 146 with credits, 378 with passes, while 538 failed.

Of the 2,834 Business Education candidates, over 63% failed in stage 1, with only 2.95% with distinctions, 52% passed at stage two while 65% passed at stage 3.
