THE Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Dr. Kezimbira Miyingo, has said Movement leaders supported the bid for a third term for President Yoweri Museveni, to help transform Uganda to multipartyism.
“We support the third term for president Museveni because we do not want to change a president at the time when were are changing from the Movement to political pluralism. He should go on for at least five years,” Miyingo said.
He was addressing Movement leaders at the welcome party for the new Masaka RDC, Bamusedde Bwambale and bidding farewell to two former sub-county Movement chairpersons, Ali Mutaawe and Jjuuko Kasiita who were recently appointed RDC and deputy RDC respectively
The function was at the district headquarters.
Miyingo said their wish for the Movement to remain as a system and contest against other political parties was overruled by court.
He said it was then that they accepted to go multiparty but needed Museveni to spearhead the transition.
He condemned some Movement leaders who fought each other.
“We lost the Bukomansimbi seat because of internal wrangles. In Masaka, we have some leaders who are double dealers, they condemn and fight the Movement from inside,” he said.
He told them to vacate the system instead of spoiling its good name.
Miyingo said some heavyweight Movement supporters were also culprits.
Miyingo said such bickering would weaken the support.
Bukoto South MP Herbert Lwanga said the Movement would be stronger if leaders could explain its achievements in rural areas.
He said the Government had initiated a lot of projects for the rural poor.
