Kapchorwa LC5 chairman Nelson Chelimo has disowned the self-proclaimed king of Sebei, Bilal Matui.
Chelimo recently said the Sabiny culture did not have a king and Matui’s claim to the throne was suspect.
“Matui is therefore misusing the media to inform the world about a nonexistent kingdom,” Chelimo said.
Matui, 26 and a trader from Kaserem sub-county, recently pronounced himself as the King of Sebei.
He allegedly said the kingdom would not accept peace talks with the warring Kenya Pokot and Karimojong.
Chelimo said cultural issues in Kapchorwa were sensitive and sometimes led to problems that included death.
He highlighted female genital mutilation as one of the cultures the district was fighting.
He said Matui should be investigated over statements he made regarding the district efforts to seek peace with the Kenya Pokot and the Karimojong.
District Police chief Thomson Ogole said he would follow up the matter.
