International Development Consultants (IDC) a sub- regional, but Kampala based consultancy firm has been awarded the International Quality Crown Award for 2003.
The award is an initiative of the Business Initiative Directions (BID) and is given to companies worldwide who respond well to QC100, (a set of 100 quality related corporate management principles).
IDC chairman, Prof. Sam Tulya-Muhika received the award on behalf of the firm at a ceremony held at Thistle Tower Hotel in London recently. It was presided over by Jose Prieto, President and CEO of BID, along with other outstanding personalities from the business world.
IDC is the first East African-based consultancy firm to receive this award.
“IDC is certainly committed to quality and to well informed and qualitable market enlargement as a strategic tool for the future survival and eventual development of the African continent,†Tulya-muhika said in an interview.
The firm has directors from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, and markets its services throughout the COMESA region, mainly on regional economic integration.
It was conceptually born in 1997, after the collapse of the old East African Community, when it became apparent to some regional integration enthusiasts that part of the reason for the collapse of the community was lack of strategic East African-owned regional private sector input.
BID operates in 166 countries worldwide and surveys close to 10,000 firms every year. Tulya-Muhika said that firms to be considered are often confidentially nominated to BID by satisfied customers, without knowledge of the firm in question.
Tulya-Muhika was the first boss of the Uganda Revenue Authority when it began operations in the early 1990s.
He has also been closely associated with the revival of the East African Community. An issue that he strongly believes in.Ends
