ONE of the candidates for the Kabale LC5 seat by-elections has launched his campaign.

Adison Kakuru, who is seeking re-election, launched the campaign at Kabale stadium shortly after his nomination on Friday.

He was escorted by MPs and supporters in a convoy of about 30 cars.

“Help me and support Kakuru so that I don’t lose my ministerial post when he loses,” said parliamentary affairs minister and area woman MP Hope Ruhindi Mwesigye.

Mwesigye, who talked about Kakuru in glowing terms, described him as a movement candidate, developmental and as the right person for the seat.

She asked his supporters to work for a landslide victory.

Kakuru thanked the people for their support and assured them of victory.

Recently, the Electoral Commission warned the candidates not to campaign until January 30.

MPs Godfrey Pereza (Rubanda East), Avitus Tibarimbasa (Ndorwa East) and Hanifa Kawooya (Woman Sembabule), attended.

Meanwhile, Hannington Mbabazi reports that voters in the district are bitter over remarks by MP Kawooya that Kakuru’s opponents were mere scarecrows.

“All those standing against Adison Kakuru are mere scare crows and we can’t allow them to head this district,” Kawooya, who was speaking at the same rally, said.

Geoffrey Nzaana, a lecturer at Mubende NTC and Denis Nkwasibwe the district youth chairperson, are Kakuru’s opponents.

Many people The New Vision talked to were bitter over Kawooya's remarks, saying she should not confuse and divide them.

Nzaana and Nkwasibwe dismissed her remarks as empty threats. They said Kakuru was panicking.
