JINJA district leaders have clashed over development programmes in the formerly industrial town.
Jonathan Angura reports that the clash during celebrations to mark the 18th NRM anniversary at Busoga Square, involved central division chairman Muhammad Baswale and mayor David Wakudumira.
It was all sparked off by Baswale who said he had contacted Century Bottling Company to fund a feasibility study to turn the Source of the Nile into an international tourist site.
Wakudumira retaliated by saying he had signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Social Security Fund on investments including the Source of the Nile.
“We do not want uncoordinated movements in Jinja and we should not do things for personal and selfish gains,†Wakudumira said.
District chairman Fred Gume lashed out at the two leaders accusing them of quarrelling instead of seeking dialogue in the right forum.
“You should have a chronological approach to issues in discussing the development of this town. We should have a common vision instead of quarrelling,†Gume warned.
