UGANDA Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has started installing digital meters in different parts of Kampala.
The digital meters will replace the electromagnetic meters.
“The installation of meters of this kind is meant to ease the whole process of energy measurement and the billing system,” said Robert Mubiru, the acting customer service manager in charge of Kampala.
Since the 1970s, the then UEB, now UEDCL had been utilising meters with electrostatic components.
Mubiru said single phase meters are being installed at premises of new customers and replacing old ones.
He said the digital meters have helped industrialists adjust their operations and benefit from ‘time of use’ tariff.
Mubiru said meter constant, current and voltage ratings are more vital than the type of meter.
