Now there are in our own backyard! Coca-Cola Popstars promises to breathe life into the lifetime of three Ugandans with exceptional music talent and the dreams of becoming international pop stars.
“Last year when we decided to bring Coca-Cola Popstars to Uganda, we knew that we would bringing one of the greatest community events ever,” Chiryu Waligo, Coca-Cola East African’s representative in Uganda, announced to a lively crowd of journalists and local stars during last week’s launch of the Coca-Cola Popstars at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
“As we embark on this wonderful journey, we are seeking to find three lucky, gifted, talented people who will represent this country and its people on the world music stage.”
The aspiring pop stars are required to have no prior recording experience and should present authentic documents to certify that they fall between the ages 18 and 27.
Anthony Morgan and Zwai Bala from South Africa who are on the panel of international popstar judges, will be joined by Christine Mawadri and Steve Jean to whittle down the number of contestants to 15. These will then be taken to Nairobi for nine week’s training in choreography, makeovers and style.

“Coca-Cola Popstars is a very important project for our region. It is a chance for Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania to claim their rightful place on the world’s musical map. This is is just one of the ways Coca-Cola has chosen to give East African youth a chance to realise their lifetime dreams,” explained Waligo.
