A Abubaker Tabula double earned KCC FC maximum points in their opening game of the 2004 Super League yesterday.
If that was one way of saying ‘thank you’ to his recently improved contract at the club, then he got the message across loud and clear, in an absorbing game against URA FC at Nakivubo stadium. Fellow giants Express and SC Villa also snatched wins yesterday.
Tabula was played as a makeshift striker in the absence of Henry Kabeta, currently in the US. The left-footed defender got his first after a pulsating run on the wing that had him shoot past a hapless Ibrahim Mugisha at the near post.
Just as URA seemed to have found their rhythm in the game, with a few scares coming in from David Kalungi, Tabula put the game beyond the tax men with another beautiful strike in the 33rd minute.
URA tactician Jackson Mayanja had long before the game expected a backlash on the backdrop of last season’s defeats over KCC.
The world of Geoffrey Serunkuuma was one of frustration. The highly prized striker snatched from Police FC last season barely had a shot on goal and was substituted by coach Mike Mutebi.
David Kiwanuka snatched a consolation for URA at the death.
Champions SC Villa maintained their 100 per cent start to the league with victory away to Kinyara.
Alloysius Lubega scored for Villa.
In Iganga, Peter Rwebuga’s accuracy with the dead ball helped Express get their first win on day-three of the Super League away at Saza ground.
Rwebuga, who got Express’ consolation goal from a free kick during the club’s 1-2 loss to Villa on Saturday, struck again yesterday.
In Mbale, a brace from Heroes Chris Kato sunk Top TV, who got a golden chance to play in the league after arbitration by state sports minister Henry Okello Oryem saved them from demotion. Top TV’s consolation came from Patrick Ssengendo.
