UGANDA’S young cricketers will have a chance to show their potential to the game’s top two officials, ICC President Ehsan Mani and ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed, who are in Dhaka to watch the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup games.
The ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup will take place in Bangladesh from February 15 to March 5.
“I know that there is a lot of interest in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup throughout the country and I look forward to witnessing this with my own eyes,” said Mani,.
Six of the sixteen teams participating in the Bangladesh ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup had to pass through regional qualifiers to reach the finals.
Uganda created the biggest surprise in the qualifying stages by beating Kenya in the semi-final of the Africa / East Asia-Pacific regional tournament.
Though Uganda went on to lose to Papua New Guinea in the final, the victory over Kenya was enough to secure them one of two qualifying places from the Africa / East Asia-Pacific regions.
Uganda will be the only team making a debut in the U-19 World Cup.
