The Minister of Local government, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, has blocked a petition seeking to remove Mbale district chairman Ellias Bernard Mujasi from office.

He said the district council should instead warn Mujasi to stop doing things that could lead to a breach of law and cause disharmony among district councillors.

“If Mr. Mujasi does not change after the warning, I will not hesitate to appoint a tribunal to handle the petition,” Kabwegyere said in a letter to the district speaker.

He said the district could only develop if leaders respected one another and amicably resolved their differences.

Some councillors filed a petition to sack Mujasi, accusing him of abuse of office, incompetence and corruption.

They claimed he had usurped the powers of the district service commission by appointing Kenneth Wanaiaye Khatuuli as acting chief administrative officer.
