THOUSANDS of Kampalans yesterday thronged to the Ismaili Cemetery to bury Charm Ziba, hotel mogul Karim Hirji’s wife.

Without speeches, the afternoon Islamic burial ceremony fell short of a major state event having attracted a big government delegation with over 15 ministers, MPs, politicians, prominent business people and other public figures.

Ministers included Gerald Sendaula, Brig. Jim Muhwezi, Capt. Mike Mukula, Sam Bitangaro, Captain Francis Babu and Tim Lwanga.

They braved the hostile lunch time sun to pay their last respects to the deceased.

Charm died on Sunday evening of cancer at Cromwell Hospital in London, after months of admission in hospitals in Uganda, South Africa and UK.

Her body was returned on Wednesday morning and it was viewed yesterday morning at Ismaili Agakhan Mosque at Old Kampala.

Prominent businessmen and public figures present included Gordon Wavamunno, mayor Sebaana Kizito, retired Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo, former president Lukongwa Binaisa and the chairman NRM/O Moses Kigongo.

Outside the cemetery, luxury cars filled all the parking space at the nearby Jinja Road Police station and Police club.
