Heritage Oil Corporation, the company exploring for oil on block 2 in the Semliki has announced that its Turaco 2 well in Uganda has reached measured depth of 2963 metres (2,949 metres true vertical depth).
The corporation said in a statement yesterday, electronic logging was currently underway and should continue for the next few days. “This means that we are not going to drill any more. We are just going to test the well to find out if there are any hydrocarbons in it,†Brian Westwood, Heritage oil Uganda director said in a brief phone interview yesterday.
“Equipment has already been mobilised such that consequent upon log evaluation, the well can be tested with minimum delay,†the statement added. Reuben Kashambuzi, the commissioner for petroleum exploration in the energy ministry said yesterday, people should be patient for a few weeks when the results would be announced.
“The logging is in progress. It should be completed this week. Next week, we will start testing the well, then wait for the results,†Kashambuzi said. Heritage Oil holds a 50% working interest in the project and is the operator. It is an international gas and oil company with principle properties in the DRC Congo, Oman and Uganda, with a registered office in Calgary, Alberta.
The Turaco 2 well is the second well that Heritage has drilled after the initial attempts failed when the equipment got stuck in the first well. The rig that was used on Turaco 2 which is five times stronger did the job.
