They edged out the legendary Afrigo Band in the race for the Best Live Band award at last year’s PAM awards. They also scooped Best Live Single for Romeo Akiiki’s No Parking.

Since then, KADS Band has seemingly done everything in their power to ensure they do not lose their grip on that position. The Band released two albums in December 20 alone – Jako Etala and Abawala Ba City. Tony Kalanzi and Rashida Mukasa did the title tracks, respectively.

Now, hardly two months later, they are back with another one. Come February 22, the group will be releasing KADS Vol.5, their latest album at Hotel Equatoria from 6:00pm. Maggie Kigozi, Uganda Investment Authority executive director is expected to preside over the function.

KADS Vol.5 is a six-track album with contributions from such accomplished group members as Prossy Kankunda, Bernard Muyigwa, Akiiki Romeo and Bebesha.

“We’re releasing all these albums because we want to maintain our lead as the best live band in Uganda,” says Willy Kamukama, KADS Band chairman.

In another development, the band started performing at Hotel Equatoria last Sunday. They will be performing at the venue on Sundays from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

The band has hitherto been performing at Hotel Africana, where they have been stationed since February 2003. Kamukama says their contract with the hotel expired.

KADS Band comprises 22 members, eight of whom are lead singers and the rest instrumentalists and dancers. They perform a mixture of local pop (band music) and traditional Luganda music and dance.
