Emmanuel Issanez was the hero as Uganda U-19 cricketers won their first game of the Bangladesh section of their tour here yesterday.

The game played in front of visiting International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ehsan Mani, Uganda overcame Chittagong Divisional B team by one wicket on a slow paced pitch Chittagong B , who on Thursday lost to England, won the toss and batted. They got off to a good start as Uganda struggled to control line and direction, giving away 18 wides.

Junior Ruyange made the breakthrough trapping Salauddin lbw and bowling Iman before Issanez ripped the heart out of the middle order finishing with the astonishing figures of 9.5 overs, 4 maidens, 6 wickets for 16 runs.

Raymond Otim and Jimmy Okello picked up a wicket apiece as Bangladesh folded at 115. This stunning display impressed the ICC president.

Uganda made a solid reply but soon found runs hard to come by on the slow pitch where the ball often skidded through very low.
Kintu and Ondeko put on 33 without trouble before Ondeko holed out at mid off.

Kintu made 19, Kyobe 7, Hamza went for a duck, Otim managed 5 and suddenly Uganda were in trouble at 77-5.

Issanez once again and Okello guided the tourists to some safety but sloppy batting brought them to 114-9 and it needed the last wicket pair of Davis Arinaitwe and Ruyange to carry Uganda home.

The game was umpired by one of Bangladesh ex-international, Enamul Hoque Mony, who played in 10 tests and 25 One Day international for the home country.

He was impressed with Uganda's bowling and fielding. “Your boys are good. The batsmen just need to learn how to adapt to these very slow wickets”.

Uganda’s dream of lifting the U-19 World Cup trophy will be put to test by cricket power house South Africa in their opening tie on Monday, adds Ronnie Kintu.
