TWO candidates vying for the Kabale LC5 seat have asked the electoral commission to explain the legality of their third opponent’s candidature, report Darious Magara and Hannington Mbabazi.
Geoffrey Nzaana and Dennis Nkwasibwe alleged that the electoral commission used a forged number to nominate Adison Kakuru last month.
The district registrar Idi Kahwa, however, said that Kakuru was a registered voter although he does not appear in the voters’ register.
He clarified that Kakuru’s registration details are in the Electoral Commission database.
“This is to request you to furnish us with the materials in your database which proves that he is a registered voter,” they wrote.
Kakuru maintains that he is a registered voter and would be stupid not to register.
The news of whether Kakuru is registered or not has created controversy.
