MPs want an inquiry on the sh16b tax scandal involving the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and the former Uganda Electricity Board (UEB).

The call comes a day after the Ssebutinde Commission of Inquiry on URA released its report on graft in the body.

Documents tabled yesterday before the parliamentary natural resources committee showed that URA employees connived with the power body to defraud the Government.
Presenting the second part of the petition against hiked power tariffs yesterday, Lubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi tendered the exhibits as proof of the energy sector's indebtedness, leading the tariffs hike.

Lukyamuzi named the joint petitioners as Kawempe South MP Ssebuliba Mutumba, Ngora MP Francis Epetait, Lamwo MP Eng. Hillary Onek, and makindye Esat MP Mike Mabikke.

A case for the money was filed in the tax appeal tribunal as TAT No.4 and TAT No.8 in 2000, which forced UEB to settle out of court following a series of meetings.

Committee chairperson Loyce Bwambale promised Lukyamuzi to take up the matter as a different investigation from the power tariffs petition.
