Nepal will reach the ICC U-19 World Cup Super League if England beat South Africa following their five-wicket victory over Uganda yesterday.
Nepal produced the shock of the tournament on Wednesday in beating South Africa by one wicket but were made to work hard for a second victory by a determined Uganda side. South Africa will now need a win over England today in the final Group B game, to deny Nepal.
Yesterday was an emotional moment for the Nepalese team and 200 of their noisy supporters.
T. B Shah, manager of the team was full of praise for the Ugandan team. “Your boys pushed us hard today and we were a bit worried. Keep up the good work.”
Uganda indeed did have some cause to feel satisfied. Clive Kyangungu won the toss for the third time in a row, elected to bat and Uganda for the first time started to pile on the runs.
A second wicket stand of 76 gave Uganda a solid start. With two huge sixes from Raymond Otim in his 22. Uganda hit their tournament high 194 runs.
Nepal had to win, but, they began their chase nervously and Ronald Ssemanda captured two quick wickets as Nepal slowed to 62-2 in 20 .
Captain Shakti Gauchan was missed in a run out chance and then dropped by Ruyange at mid-on at 10. This was to prove costly as Nepal were 153 for 5 off 39.2 overs then.
