A lot has changed since KADS Band released their last project KADs Band Vol.4 in January 2003. The band lost one of its lead vocalists Titi, who went on to pursue a solo career but regained Prossy Kankunda, another vocal jewel they had lost to Splash Band.
Per se, KADs Band Vol.4, as the album KADS Band had to present for the first ever Ugandan music award ceremony, was not a disappointment, bringing home three awards with the Best Live Band award.
Can KADS Band Vol.5: Omupiira emulate the former’s success? Will it also strike a cord with listeners? This album will be launched this Sunday, February 22, at Hotel Equatoria from 6:00pm.
Can Prossy Kankunda, rework her charm like she did on 2001’s KADS Band Vol.2 with Akalulu? Her two contributions on this album, Omupiira and Nyonyoyi, the latter done in Ekitaguriro, traditional Ankole music and dance style and the former in popular live band style are great tracks but are still no match.
Romeo Akiiki who teamed up with Kankunda on Jako Ettala, an independent production in December, contributes Sure Deal, a self-motivation song, to the album. Yet another Steve Jean production, the song sounds a lot like No Parking with its reggaeish feel, only it is sang solely in Luganda. Is Akiiki’s success with this one a sure deal? Only time will tell.
But the best track on the album is unequivocally Mateso, a Swahili offering which details the problems a youngman undergoes with a woman he is in love with.
