THE Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has embarked on a massive campaign of installing 40,000 computerised meters for its customers, writes Vision Reporter.
UEDCL Principal Public Relations Officer Edward Twine on Thursday said the company had developed a system of meter-reading using computerised handsets effective this month.
“With the old system, meter readers could easily make mistakes. But with the new system, the reading is more accurate because each customer’s number is entered into the computer.
“The computer programmes can even tell which electric appliances were used on a given day and for how long, which could reduce on unnecessary complaints,†he said. Twine said with the new system, meter readers in Kampala would be reduced from 70 to 65.
He said the new system is intended for efficient and effective service delivery to UEDCL’s 230,000 customers countrywide. Ends
