LAWYERS for former head of the Internal Security Organisation, Brig. Henry Tumukunde, have denied that their client wrote to President Yoweri Museveni seeking pardon.

According to Tthe Indian Ocean newsletter for February 7, 2004, Brig. Tumukunde and the former army commander, James Kazini, recently wrote to Museveni to ask for his forgiveness.

The newsletter said Tumukunde also asked Museveni to spare him from the General Court Martial, before which he is accused of insurbodination, among other things.

“But Museveni seems to have a merciless attitude towards the officers. He sent Tumukunde’s letter back to him, advising him to send it to the court martial, which is presided over by Major General Elly Tumwine,” the newsletter added.

Tumukunde’s lawyers, Enos Tumusiime and M. Kabega said, “As far as we are concerned, we are not aware of any letter that our client might have written to Museveni.’’
