the president of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI), Olive Kigongo, has said an Indian investor proposed establishment of Uganda permanent trade point in India and a tractor assembly plant.

Kigongo said this was contained in a memorandum of understanding and trade agreement between the two countries.

This was in a speech read for her by the UNCCI deputy secretary general, Abdul Kasule, during a meeting with the Indian Plastic Export Promotion Council delegates at Sheraton Hotel recently.

The 11-man team from leading plastic manufacturing industries in India, is in the country to explore business opportunities in East Africa and facilitate export growth through market promotion initiatives.

The head of the delegation, Jaswanth Soundrapandian, said some of the delegates are looking for agents/dealers for their products.

He said under the Focus Africa Initiative launched by India’s ministry of commerce, the council is working on strategies to aggressively tap the $1.50b plastics market which exists in Sub-Saharan Africa. He said India has 2.40% share of that market.
