KIGALI - FIFA president Sepp Blatter (above) will launch Rwanda’s $609,000 national soccer academy in the capital Kigali on March 21, officials said on Wednesday. Rwanda’s football association secretary, Jules Kalisa, confirmed the visit by the head of world soccer’s governing body, adding that Blatter’s delegation would also help Rwanda create an action plan for its grassroot programmes. The academy, whose major funding will be from FIFA, would play a significant role in the development of the sport in Rwanda. The visit would be Blatter’s third to the tiny central African country, which is regarded as the most improved soccer nation in the east and central African region. Ends
