Joint Heirs Choir, a group of 12 bubbly artistes, is set to release first debut album on CD at Kampala Pentecostal Church on Saturday.

The launch is to takes place from 3:00pm to 5:30pm.

The 10-track album, titled Receive my Praise, features the choir’s old and new praise and worship songs in Luganda and English.

The songs are Joint Heir’s most inspirational melodies exalting the benevolence of the almighty God.

Since its formation in 1979, the choir has four albums to its credit released on audiocassette, but had never released a CD. However, since August 2001, the artistes took sometime off their schedules to piece up an album on audio CD.

“Our mission has been to reach the youth through contemporary Christian music using modern instruments,” said Fady Mande, the rhythm and bass guitarist and lead tenor singer.

The album, recorded in the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF) choir studios, is a synchronised output blending the diverse vocal ranges of the members and matched by the keyboard synthesiser.

In keeping with the choir’s mission, the album is predominantly made up of slow rhythmic praise and worship songs that evoke listeners to meditate. Essanyu (Joy) and Blessed be the name of the Lord are among the mellow songs on their CD, which has only three danceable tracks, You just cannot reject him, Living for Jesus and Webaze mukama. Although some lines in a few of the songs are sung off key with scanty unpleasant drags, the choir largely comes off as a melodious team.

Their most compelling song is Webaze mukama, a fast track, which exalts the harmonious understanding between lead singer Dan Ssemambo (tenor) and the diverse vocal range of back-up vocalists.

“We got the name from the book of Romans 8:17, which says we were brought together by Christ,” Charles Male, one of the veterans of the choir said.

The album consists of touching soulful rhythms you would want to listen to in your living room. CDs are to cost sh15,000 and audiocassettes will sh2,500.
