REBELS of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) on Monday sneaked into Katakwi district and killed four people at Odilil in Orungo sub-county.

The Arrow Group militia coordinator, Musa Ecweru, said LRA remnants tried to infiltrate the Teso region through Omoro sub-county in the southern part of Lira district.

“A small group attempted to sneak back into Katakwi. They are an insignificant group that we shall decisively deal with,” Ecweru said.

He said the group was trying to instill fear in the displaced people who were returning to their homes.
Local leaders in Obalanga said this was the second attack by the rebels in two weeks.

Obalanga LC3 chairperson, John Patrick Erau, said thugs suspected to be LRA rebels killed two people at Oringoi village, Alito parish on March 3.

He said the dead were Gerepasio Oluga and Elobu son of Opio.

“They got these people in their gardens uprooting cassava. Some of them escaped from the rebels but the two were killed,” Erau said.
The UPDF 3rd Division commander, Lt. Col. Silver Kayemba, said, “We are yet to establish the killers.”

The 3rd division chief of intelligence, Lt. Col. Stephen Oluka, said facts about such incidents were often distorted by civilians.

“Intelligence on rebels has been distorted by rumours. It is becoming difficult to separate right from wrong because the public does not want to volunteer information.”
