THE Rwenzori mountains Alpine Brigade commander, Lt. Col. Kabangyira has warned residents of Bwera, Bukonzo west, Kasese district against collaborating with Allied Democratic Front rebels(ADF).
addressing a security meeting at Bwera sub-county Council Hall recently, Kabangyira said an injured rebel, Asuman Abacha, had given him a list of rebel collaborators.
“Almost 50% of the people here (Bwera) are rebel collaborators,” he said.
The National Political Commissar, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, chaired the security meeting which followed the killing of an ADF rebel commander and one of his escorts at Kyabolokya near Bwera town two weeks ago.
abacha, who was the second escort, was seriously injured and admitted to Bwera Hospital.
Kiyonga appealed to local leaders to forget their differences in favour of security.
Local leaders expressed concern over the increased demand for food in the border markets.
They said there had been similar demands in 1996, when the region had been attacked by the ADF.
Kiyonga advised the committee to hold regular meetings and mobilise residents on health and security to ensure peace in the region.
“Monitor the security all the time,” he said.
