BONIFACE Kiprop strode to his second World Junior Cross-country silver that also aided Uganda to a fourth consecutive team bronze medal yesterday.

Kiprop was again edged in the final sprint in the 8km event in Brussels.

The second silver marked the end of Kiprop’s dream of winning a world junior cross-country gold.

The 19-year-old Standard High School student will be a senior next year.

“I’m disappointed because I expected to win here. But I felt tired, probably because of the conditions. Not the wind, but the cold was difficult to cope with,” Kiprop said.

Ethiopia led by men’s long and short distance sensation Kenenisa Bekele won all team gold medals.

Australia’s Johnson Benita was the competition’s biggest surprise in the women’s long race, edging the Kenyans and Ethiopians to the gold. Kenya’s Edith Masai won the women’s short race for a fourth time.

Dorcus Inzikuru finished in 38th position while Cerino Abong was 112th in the men’s 12km race.
