Before the dust settles on the scandals, which rocked the Miss Makerere University 2004 a fortnight ago, their counterparts at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Nakawa, are in advanced stages of organising their own Miss MUBS 2004.

Phiona Namanya Kasigaire, MUBS social affairs minister and a member of the organising committee, says the pageant, which will be held under the theme “beauty and elegance in touch with society”, has been fixed for April 3, at the Nile Conference Centre, Kampala.

Entrance will be sh50,000 for VIPs (dinner and drinks inclusive), while the rest will part with sh10,000.

Kasigaire says Tanzanian singer, Mr. Nice, was initially supposed to be the guest artist, but was unfortunately hospitalised following a shooting incident. She says they are tentatively in talks with top-notch local singer, Jose Chamelone to replace him.

Other artistes expected at the do include Michael Ross, Julianna Kanyomozi and Benon and Vamposs. She Kasigaire says the organising committee is still deliberating between Sanyu FM’s DJ Ronnie “Mitch” Egwang and WBS TV’s Jam Agenda presenter, Kazoora for MC.

By press time, 17 girls had been confirmed as participants in the contest, which will see the winner walk away with a Toyota Celica. The winner will also win one academic year’s accommodation inside the business school. If she happens to be a resident, she will be paid money instead. It costs sh340,000 to sleep in a MUBS hall of residence per semester.

The first-runner up will win a 14-inch colour TV set and a mobile phone. The second runner-up will win a music system and mobile phone. The top three contestants will win free subscription to Club Silk for a year.

As expected, the ignominy of the Miss Makerere beauty pageant, has cast a shadow over the event with potential sponsors expressing skepticism. But Kasigaire says they are to put up a show with a difference.
