MPs from Buganda have said the Constitutional Review Commission’s recommendations on federo did not reflect the system of governance they wanted.
Makindye East MP Micheal Mabikke, Kyadondo East MP Issa Kikungwe and Makindye West MP Nsubuga Nsambu threatened to throw out the recommendations in Parliament.
The MPs were addressing a rally convened by Rubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi at Nyanama, in Rubaga division on Saturday.
Lukyamuzi called the rally to launch the CRC report to his constituents.
“Sempebwa’s report doesn’t have what Buganda wanted. That isn’t the federo we wanted. We wanted federo which divides power between Buganda and the Central region not federo which just borrows power,†said Mabikke.
“When the report comes to the
house we shall throw out Sempebwa’s recommendations on federo first.â€
Nsambu said there was nothing good in the report on federo and that Buganda’s federo was not to be debated.
He said Buganda did not mind getting full federo status without money.
“Even if we get federo without money, it’s better than being governed,†he said.
