SIR— April 11, Easter Day, marks the anniversary of Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead.
Christians worldwide will observe it as a day to worship, rejoice and feast.
The Christian concept and experience of resurrection is alien to the African worldview.
For example, among the Iteso, resurrection means to get married and produce children on whom the future of the family/clan depends! But the Christian experience of resurrection is different. When Jesus had been buried, everyone thought that his work and promises had come to nothing.
His friends were deeply disappointed and afraid. After the interval of one day, three women who had helped him during his journeys went to the tomb to do honour to the body.
Astonished to find the tomb empty, they told this to others who said they were talking nonsense.
But by far the best proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the existence to the Christian Church. Nothing would have changed sad and despairing men and women into radiant believers with joy and flaming courage in the face of persecution except the presence of the risen Christ.
Because of this belief, certain things follow: l Jesus is not a figure in a book. He is a living presence.
l Christian life is not the life of a man/woman who has heard about Jesus, but of a person who bears testimony to Jesus.
l Those who follow him are meant to spread the good news of the resurrection. He is ready to change those who repent of bad ways.
