Baby Dies In Easter Fire

KAMPALA —
An eight-monthold baby was burnt to death in an Easter inferno in a city suburb on Sunday. Sekame Musoke was burnt to death when a fierce fire believed to have been started from by burning candle, swept through their one-roomed house in Wabigalo, Kalina zone, Makindye division. Police spokesman Assuman Mugenyi yesterday said Musoke’s mother had left the candle burning. In another incident, a fire destroyed a building in Kawempe. Like in the Makindye fire, the Kawempe inferno was also started by a burning candle.
Girl Defiled In Kakira
BUGIRI
— A truck driver was recently charged with defiling a 13-year-old girl. Juma Alobo reportedly lured the girl into the cabin of his truck and defiled her. The girl was rescued by villagers who responded to her distress call and rushed her to Kakira hospital. Alobo escaped while being taken to Police until late last month when he was arrested. The girl said the suspect tricked her with sh1,000. The district Grade II Magistrate, Margaret Bakulimya, advised the suspect not to take plea, since the offence was only triable by a higher court.

Army Kills 3 LRA Rebels
GULU —
The UPDF Fourth Division has killed three Lord’s Resistance Army rebels, captured one and recovered 115 guns. The division’s Commanding Officer, Col. Nathan Mugisha, said the rebels were killed in Kilak hills. He said they recovered different sets of ammunition in various ambushes prior to the Easter weekend. He said two of the rebels were killed in Loyo-Ajonga in Aswa and Omoro counties.

Evicted Man Loses Nerve
BUGIRI —
A squatter on Thursday went berserk and vented anger on his hapless landlord. Godfrey Kabagambire attacked his landlord, Moses Mudhimbadha, with a panga and inflicted deep cuts on the hand and shoulder after he was ordered to vacate the land. Kabagambire had lived on the piece of land for four years.
