THE Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has entered its new home, on plot 15, Shimon Road, Nakasero, Dr. Frank Ssebbowa, the executive director, has said.
Sebbowa said the new home, valued at sh850m was set for official launching on April 22, by the energy minister, Syda Bbumba.
“This new environment enhances our independence from Government and the spacious environment will enable our technical staff deliver effectively,†he said in an interview recently.
Ssebbowa said the building, which was built out of savings by a NORAD grant, had a library, resource centre, an interview room and other facilities.
He said the plot cost sh450m, while they spent another sh450m on renovating the building.
Ssebbowa said by acquiring their own premises, the company would be saving $3000 (sh6m) per month on rent.
He said they had a three-year funding arrangement with NORAD, which would expire at the end of this year.
During its three-year existence, ERA has been renting about 250 square metres of office space at the Communications House.
ERA will continue receiving its percentage share of the entire electricity tariff, as funding for sensitisation and investigation. activities.
