By Norman Katende IT has been Mike ‘Ray’ Mutebi’s lifetime dream to set the football pace at the top of the game in Uganda. The 34-year-old tactician (right) was yesterday given a chance to make a first step towards that dream, by being put in charge of the Cranes as the search for an Egyptian professional coach continues. German-trained Mutebi will be assisted by high flying Ggaba FC coach Frank “Video†Anyau The duo has replaced former acting head coach Leo Adraa, who replaced Pedro Pablo Pasculli, who abandoned duty. Asuman Lubowa replaced Sam Kabugo as team manager and will be assisted by Faisal Muhammed. Mutebi said he was yet to get a formal appointment, but looked forward to the challenge with the national soccer team when it comes. FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda confirmed the appointment. “The only thing I can say is that I thank God for considering me at 34. This means that I am doing something good for the teams,†said Mutebi. Mutebi’s first assignment from Sunday will be to prepare Cranes for a training tour of Germany next month. Next assignment will be to guide Uganda through the 2006 World Cup/Africa Nations Cup qualifiers that start on June 1 against DR Congo. Mutebi, who has guided KCC twice, been at Simba and was a national U-19 coach with Sam Ssimbwa before, had his name endorsed by FUFA’s emergency committee. “There was so much we looked at but performance and education featured most. It was a long discussion with so many coaches on line, but we zeroed on these two (Mutebi and Anyau),†Mawanda revealed. Ends
