SEVEN Makerere Unive-rsity vice-chancellorship candidates on Friday made public presentations on their suitability.
They included former Makerere School of Post-Graduate Studies acting director Prof. John Opuda-Asibo, current director Prof. David Bakibinga, Makerere professors Livingstone Luboobi (Mathematics), Katunguka-Rwakishaya (head of Vet) and Oswald Ndoleriire (Dean of Arts).
Others were Jamaica University of Technology associate vice-president Prof. Eng. Adelani Ogunri-nade (Nigerian) and African University, Zimbabwe deputy vice-chancellor Prof. Eng. Edward Baryeh (Ghan-ian). Adelani is former deputy vice-chancellor University of Witwater-srand in South Africa.
The audience included University Council members, Senate, academic and administrative staff and the media.
The function took place at the university main hall. Members were given an opportunity to ask candidates questions.
“I intend to privatise management of student accommodation. I feel the university should enter into partnership with private developers to build more hall od residence,†Bakibinga said.
Social Sciences dean and member of the search committee Prof. Kirumira said, “We wanted to judge how they inspire confidence in the public.â€
